Covid-19 Childcare Pandemic Policies

The health and safety of our children and our employees are our number one priority. We have implemented the covid-19 protocols in our childcare facility. To help inform every family about your child returning to child care we want to assure you of our commitment to maintaining the social and emotional health of your child(ren). We would like to assure you of the measures we are taking to protect your child(ren) and our staff. We are working together with the Public Health departments and are following their recommendations as well as simultaneously living into our own values regarding care for children. Please click and refer to Public Health Guidance for Child Care Settings During the COVID-19 Pandemic for more guidelines and information.

Updated Practices

Screening:

We are implementing thorough screening measures for staff, child(ren), and parents, if they choose to enter our childcare facility. Please check to the Daily Health Check Example down below and all the answers to those Frequently Asked Questions must be No to attend for each child and staff. Please do this self-screening before sending your child(ren) to childcare. If you or your child cannot answer the questions according to what is required, you will not be permitted to attend the childcare. At this time, the health department is advising us that we should not allow parents to enter the building.

Hours of Operation:

Monday – Friday, with hours varying based on need and restrictions as a result of changes due to Covid-19. Your Program Leads will confirm the hours at your program.

Entrances:

We will provide information on site-specific entrance and exit protocols that support physical distancing. We ask if there are multiple drop-offs happening at once, that you maintain physical distancing and wait until a child is dropped off before bringing your child(ren) to the door. Please allow a few extra minutes at drop-off time to ensure you’re not late in getting to work.

Physical Distancing:

Educators will consider activities they can implement that support distance between children as much as possible, however we cannot require that children stay apart from others as this does not support the emotional wellbeing of children.

Cleaning Measures:

Along with practicing physical distancing between classrooms and implementing strict screening measures, we are also strictly following the cleaning guidelines that the Health Unit has provided. This includes doing a thorough disinfection of the room at midday as well as another thorough disinfection at the end of the day. Throughout the day, toys will be washed regularly or run through the sanitizer and highly touched surfaces will be disinfected regularly.

Communication:

We will continue to ensure that families and educators have the opportunity to build relationships throughout the day. What’s App Parents’ Group will be used for daily announcements, documentation, stories and photo sharing to ensure you have direct access to your child’s caregivers and knowledge of your child’s day.
•In the event that a child or staff develops any symptoms of illness: (Fever、Chills、Cough or worsening of cough、Breathing difficulties、Loss of smell or taste、Diarrhea、Nausea and vomiting、respiratory or otherwise)
While at the Centre: The child must be immediately isolated at the facility and their parent/guardian called to take the child home as soon as possible. If the child is experiencing expiratory symptoms, we will ask the child to wear a mask while self-isolating at the facility. If the child is unable or unwilling to wear a mask, the staff person caring for the symptomatic child must wear a mask or face shield if they are unable to maintain a 2-metre physical distance.
If any staff has developed any symptoms, then the staff needs to leave the facility immediately and return to work with symptom-free.
We recommend that individuals isolate at home until symptom-free, the child may return to the facility 7 days after symptoms have resolved. Staff caring for a child with respiratory symptoms may wear gloves and/or eye protection in addition to a mask/face shield if a risk assessment indicates that staff is unable to avoid coming into contact with contaminated surfaces or respiratory droplets from the child. Once symptomatic individuals have left the centre staff will ensure that contaminated surfaces and high touch areas will be disinfected.

Food:

Food and beverages should not be shared. Child care facilities should not allow homemade food items to be made available to other children at this time (e.g. Birthday treats). Children and staff can bring their own reusable food and drink containers to the facility for their own personal use. Reusable dishware, glasses and utensils should be cleaned and sanitized after each use.
